What We’ve Built Together Since 2013

Education changes the way we see the world. Architecture and built environment education teaches us to look more closely at the places where we live.

For over 10 years, De-a Arhitectura has been reaching schools across Romania with educational programmes about cities, buildings and communities. Lessons are taught jointly by teachers and architects, working side by side in the classroom.

Every encounter gives children the confidence to ask questions, observe and come up with ideas. Change begins in the classroom. Sometimes with a question. Other times with a model.

What Do We Do

at

De-a Arhitectura?

Architecture Education for Children

We create free educational programmes on architecture and the built environment in public schools, taught jointly by teachers and architects.

Support for Teachers

We provide teachers with resources, training and motivation to integrate concepts related to space, cities and sustainability into their lessons.

Professional Engagement

We train architects, urban planners and landscape architects (built environment professionals) to become educators and mentors, and to communicate clearly and accessibly with the wider public.

Changing Mindsets

We work to ensure that all children, young people and adults recognise the importance of the built environment and actively contribute to improving it.

Advocacy and Educational Innovation

We advocate for the inclusion of architecture in school curricula, promote supportive public policies and raise the visibility of the profession in society.

Talking to UIA – Architecture and Children members: Carolina Pizarro

As a member of the UIA (International Union of Architects) – Architecture and Children Work Program, we undertake this mission to raise awareness about built environment education (BEE). In 2020 we launched a new series of interviews with the members of the Work Program, to better understand how our international colleagues implement BEE activities, what is their vision and approach in their specific set of circumstances and what we can learn from it. We are happy to continue our journey with our colleague Carolina Pizarro from Costa Rica.

UIA Architecture and Children Work Programme Welcomes New co-directors from Romania and Costa Rica

The International Union of Architects (UIA) welcomes Mina Sava and Carolina Pizarro Hernández as the new co-directors of the UIA Architecture and Children Work Programme for the next three years. This valued duo will bring their wealth of experience and innovative perspectives to lead the work programme in its mission to advocate for Architecture and Built Environment Education (BEE) that positively impacts the lives of children around the world.
